Lots of new fridges have water and ice dispensers which require a plumbed in water supply. We normally connect to the water pipes in the roof and run a connection behind the cupboards or into the pantry near the fridge. We can also connect to the water supply under the sink and run a connection through the cupboards to supply the water to the fridge.
The connection of the fridge to the mains water supply should never be undertaken yourself as part of a diy project as any burst pipes or damages caused will not be covered by insurance. You are also liable to be charged with illegal installation by the plumbers board.
All fridge taps need to have the appropriate pressure limiting devices and isolation valves to make them comply with Australian standards.
